Woman of the Week: Amanda Stores

Hi babes! Meet Amanda Stores! She is a stay at home mama and artist and was kind enough to share her story in hopes of inspiring other women!

“I guess you can say that my art isn’t the typical medium. Wood burning is definitely one of those hobbies that not everyone does anymore. I began wood burning a few years ago while my husband was getting his Masters. It started off as simply a way to be creative outside of my normal job as an elementary school teacher.

I had people requesting word signs, running marathon signs, pet portraits and burning on wine barrels.”

But when Amanda had her little girl, her mindset shifted. She started to put all her time into family and decided to combine her two loves: teaching and wood burning.

“Right now, I’m in the process of making online courses and I have narrowed down my focus with my artwork. It sucked away all my creativity when I did whatever everyone else wanted for pieces. Though I loved being a part of their lives, I needed to focus on something I enjoyed wood burning (which ended up being flowers).

I quickly realized that flowers are strikingly beautiful not only because of their shape, but also their color. That meant I needed to start adding acrylic paint to my wood burnings. It has blossomed to combining both mediums to make art series, custom wedding bouquets and even burning bouquets onto paper!

In the past 4 years, my husband and I have been in or near Atlanta for his schooling and our jobs. I’m just thankful that God allowed me the opportunity to raise my daughter day by day.”

We loved hearing Amanda’s story & how she created the life she wanted by focusing on doing what SHE loved.

She also shared the following facts:

Favorite Book: “I never get time to read with my one-year-old, but in my spare moments I love to read the Bible. I am determined to read it cover to cover this year.”

Favorite Beverage: “Coke!”

What are you passionate about?: “I am passionate about living my life in a way that glorifies the Lord. I know it sounds cheesy or old fashioned, but I truly long to let Him flood throughout my business and home. If it wasn’t for Him, I wouldn’t be who I am.”

What do you do really, really well?: “I am really good at changing diapers, dancing without coordination, and picking up toys. Ha! If I’m being honest, I guess I can say that I’m good at wood burning. Not too many people can claim that, but I am still learning.”

If you could do anything with your time (regardless of obligations and finances), what would you do?: “I would travel to so many different countries. My husband and I went to Sydney and were standing in the Sydney Opera House two years ago on New Year’s Eve. We have seen the Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum in Rome, and have walked the streets of Pompeii. That was before our little blessing came into the picture. If we go again, the trip will require diapers and a stroller.”
