Oh how we love our boss babes!
Our Woman of the Week today is an aspiring female business owner whose cause is so very important. Meet, Deanna Cook. Deanna grew up in Canada and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in International Management, International Development, French, and Spanish (such a unique degree!) After graduating, she moved overseas to work in the education and nonprofit sectors. For the past five years, she has lived in Spain, Taiwan, Tanzania, and Thailand – studying, teaching, and working with nonprofits and small businesses. Through the last year, she’s grown an interest in social business as a way to affect meaningful change. As of now, she is currently working on an ethical fashion accessory brand. Her products are beautiful and high quality but also provide economic opportunity for artisans and their communities.
Her first collection is set to launch mid-2019 and will feature vegetable-tanned leather bags handmade in Ethiopia. To follow along on her journey, follow her Instagram.
And, of course, check out her answers to our usual questions…
Favorite Book: “Educated by Tara Westover”
Favorite Beverage: “Cappuccino (AM)/Cabernet Sauvignon (PM)” (agreed!)
What are you passionate about? “I’m passionate about education, opportunity, and development – both at home and abroad.”
What do you do really, really well? “I’m resourceful and a problem solver. Considering if don’t know how to do something, I’ll research it, master it, and come up with a solution I can be proud of.”
If you could do anything with your time (regardless of obligations and finances), what would you do? “Hmmm, if I could do anything with my time, I would travel and learn from other people, countries, and culture.”
Thank you, Deanna, for sharing your story with us! We always love to hear about up and coming boss babes! Do you have someone you would like to nominate? Please reach out to let us know!
